Background information:

Garret^4 Van Wicklen
(Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 JEPPES) was b. 26 Nov 1722 and bap. 23 Dec 1722 (Wolver Hollow). Sponsors were (uncle and aunt) Jan and Seytie Van Wecklen. Garret was buried in Wolver Hollow 6 Sep 1777. He married Annatje Hardenberg c. 1752. Annatje is the dau. of Hendrikus and Jannetje (Dorland) Hardenberg. Annatje was bur. 27 Nov 1802. The “land of Garret Vanwickle Jr.” in Wolver Hollow is mentioned in a 1769 deed. He served as kerkmeester 1769-72. His estate is listed on the 1788 Oyster Bay tax list. Administration of his estate was not granted until 1812 to his dau. Jane and brother Jacob. Their oldest child was bap. at Success. All others at Wolver Hollow. Two Garrets are listed as children. In the 1790 Queens County Census, Garret^4’s household lists 3 “free white males” over 16” (himself and 2 others?) and 2 “free white males under 16” (Jan, b. 1772 and Garret, b. Mar, 1774). The census also lists 4 slaves. There is also a 1790 Queens Census listing for Garret, Jr. (presumably Garret^4’s oldest son?) which lists 1 free white male over 16 (him), 1 free white female (however, he didn’t marry Sarah Underhill until 1796?), no children, 1 slave. Of the sons only one Garret left descendents and resided in Newtown, L.I.
